| My name is José Fernández, a personal trainer born in Ponce, Puerto Rico. It all started about 30 years ago when I was born as a 12-pound baby boy. I was overweight until I was 17 years old, at which time I decided to change my life style forever. I got certified as a personal trainer so I could train myself and lose weight, hoping that if I was able to do it I could help other people with the same problem. I was so successful that at the age of 24 I prepared and conditioned myself to participate in a bodybuilding contest in which I won the first place.
With already 8 years working in this field, I was hired by Fisher Island to train celebrities and outstanding professional athletes. My passion has always been to help large groups of individuals and I was able to partially fulfill my dreams when I was asked to join the writing staff for Men’s Health in Spanish. I was asked to develop a section called “Ask the Trainer”. This gave me the opportunity to help thousands of people in the United States and Latin America through my articles focusing on changing peoples' life styles to better and healthier ones.
At this time, I am engaged in a project consisting of a series of seminars addressed in Spanish to educate personal trainers in Latin America with the latest techniques in physical training. I will be visiting most of Latin America and the US and will offer the first seminar on September 9th at IHP located in Boca Ratón, Florida.
